The Institute in Slovakia for the EAAP annual meeting

From the 27th to the 31st of August 2012, the 64th annual meeting of the European Federation of Animal Science (EAAP) was held in Bratislava, Slovakia. The International Association is a point of reference for researchers, professionals and associations of producers in the field of animal husbandry.

The key topics of the meeting were the sustainability and efficiency of modern animal husbandry, through the exhibition of new operational solutions for the improvement of livestock enterprises' profitability, notwithstanding environmental protection and livestock welfare.

Experts at the G. Caporale Institute participated in the event by presenting the results of a research project funded by the Italian Ministry of Health and aiming to study sheep welfare during their transportation on long journeys and the effects of the unloading of animals at checkpoints, as required by Community legislation.

Many speakers representing the major research centres in Europe and abroad attended the meeting. The exchange of ideas and sharing of experiences on such a large scale was an unusual opportunity for scientific confrontation and the advancement of technologies to be used in the livestock sector.
