IZSAM awarded at an international conference on the water quality

 

The symposium scientific committee “Small Solutions for Big Water-Related Problems”, which was held in Rome from the 26th to the 28th of October 2014 at the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (National Health Institute) awarded the poster entitled “Gonadal Disorder in the Thinlip Grey Mullet (Liza ramada, Risso 1827) as a biomarker of environmental stress in surface waters” to Lorenzo Tancioni, Riccardo Caprioli, Ayad Hantoosh Dawood Al-Khafaji, Laura Mancini, Clara Boglione, Eleonora Ciccotti and Stefano Cataudella.

 

The awarded study focuses on the assessment of the welfare conditions of natural fish populations, which are a bio-indicator of the welfare conditions of aquatic ecosystems and are the result of an existing scientific collaboration agreement betweenthe Hygiene in Food Technology and Animal Feeds Laboratory of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise “G.Caporale”, the Laboratory of Experimental Ecology and Aquculture of the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” and the Department of Environement and Related Primary Prevention of the Istituto Superiore della Sanità.

The training course "Animal welfare principles" was held from 24 to 26 November as part of the OIE Twinning on animal welfare between IZSAM and the Ecole Nationale de Médecine Vétérinaire (ENMV) of Tunisia.
