From Nigeria at IZSAM for a PhD on CBPP

 

Doctor Jasini Athanda Musa of the Microbiology and Parasitology Department of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria, attended a six-month period of training at IZSAM (from the 16th October to the 1st of April 2015) financed by the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB).

 

The activities focused on the molecular characterisation of strains of Mycoplasma mycoides subspecies mycoides (Mmm), the causative agent of contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP), which were isolated in the North of the Nigerian country. The training activities of the semester consisted in: the study of the origin of the samples taken from bovines affected by the disease, the preparation of the fields for the isolation and identification of the mycoplasma, the update of the conduction of diagnostic test and DNA extraction from the isolated strains.
