CAPS2: Training on web GIS application

The Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise (IZSAM) is organizing a training course for the partners of the project "Strengthening CAPS2 - Centres for Aquaculture production and Safety Cross-border surveillance in Adriatic Countries" on the use of Web GIS system developed within the project.

The event takes place at the IZSAM Headquarters, in Teramo, Italy on 25-26 February 2015.

The participants come from Albania, Croatia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina and represent laboratories and National Competent Authorities involved in the project CAPS2, working in the field of safety and surveillance of fisheries products and aquaculture.

CAPS2 (www.casp2.eu) foresees the development and implementation of a Web GIS system with the aim of contributing to the monitoring of production and the surveillance of fisheries and aquaculture sectors in the Adriatic area, and in particular in the countries involved in the initiative.

The application of the CAPS2 web GIS, composed by a series of applications for data management in aquaculture and for fish and mollusc disease notification, was developed by IZSAM with the aim to provide partner Countries with a tool to acquire, manage, query and display epidemiological information on aquaculture, fishes and molluscs diseases in the Adriatic Coast and provide available data and relevant information for risk analysis and development of policies in this specific sector.

The main objectives of the training course are to transfer knowledge necessary for the proper functioning of the web GIS system and for its installation and maintenance. Lectures, moments of discussion and exercises are foreseen to promote the practical application of the knowledge acquired.
