The animal-human relationship drawn by children

On Thursday the 23rd of October the special edition of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise “G. Caporale” (IZSAM) newsletter will be presented within the “Istituto G. Caporale Special Prize” for the purpose of the XVIII international Prize for Photography and Cinematography “Gianni di Venanzo”. The presentation, organized by IZSAM and the association Teramo Nostra, will be held at 12:00 o’clock inside the Primary School San Berardo of Teramo, with the presence of the teachers and pupil, who took part in the editorial project on the human-animal relationship.

The publication was designed and realized by IZSAM’ Institutional Communication Unit with the pupil’s material (school year 2013/2014) of the Primary School San Berardo of the Istituto Comprensivo D’Alessandro-Risorgimento of Teramo, who expressed their special relationships to animals through drawings, narrative and poetic texts.

For the third consecutive year, IZSAM and the organizers of the DI Venanzo Prize are taking forward this editorial initiative, which involves pupil of primary schools in the conviction that raising awareness among them can contribute to developing a respectful culture within the animal world. In fact, the relationship to animals can’t and shouldn’t be considered only a playful moment, but it has also a great emotional, cognitive and ethical value in the growth path of each person.

In 2010, IZSAM established the “Istituto G. Caporale Special Prize”, which is assigned to the best film on the human-animal relationship within the prestigious international Prize for Photography and Cinematography “Gianni di Venanzo”, in order to raise awareness the public opinion on the effects of the complex interaction between people and animals in contemporary life environments. For three years the award has been accompanied by a publishing project linked to the primary school students in the awareness that involving children contributes to a proper training of tomorrow's adults.
