Representatives of the IZSAM went to Cuba for a training course on risk analysis

On the 5th and the 6th of May 2014, a training course on risk analysis and related risks for the decision making process was organized by experts of the Instituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise “G. Caporale” (IZSAM) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The workshop, which was proposed and realized by the IZSAM in cooperation with FAO, whereof the Institute is Reference Centre for Veterinarian Epidemiology, was part of the 2° International Conference on animal health surveillance. The objective of the workshop, which was held in La Havana from the 7th to the 9th of May 2014, was to facilitate a dialogue between science and politics on health surveillance.

During the workshop - which involved about 30 participants coming from Cuba, Uganda, Vietnam, Indonesia, Mexico and Belgium – the fundamental aspects of risk evaluation, management and communication were discussed. Particular attention was paid to the relationship between the components of risk analysis and to how these can support the decision making process in Animal Health.

Armando Giovannini and Barbara Alessandrini participated to the event as representatives of IZSAM, whereas Julio Pino represented FAO.
