On November 25, 2011 a new outbreak has been confirmed in Bari Province (Puglia). Equide is a mare positive to dourine serological tests and PCR. Epidemiological investigation is ongoing.
In Italy 7 outbreaks has been confirmed in 2011.
First outbreak was a stallion subject to serological tests to be used for stud on May 19, 2011, in the Province of Catania.
Epidemiological investigations were carried out after this positive result and two farms, one in Catania Province and one in Naples Province, were found epidemiologically correlated. Overall 10 animals resulted positive to Complement fixation test for Trypanosoma equiperdum, three of them showing Durine clinical symptoms.
On July 5, 2011 a new outbreak has been confirmed in Caserta Province (Table 1).

On June 15, 2012 the notified outbreaks are seven. Five outbreaks (in Catania province and in Napoli province) are resolved.
Results of serological controls are reported in table 2. The confirmed cases are only in Sicily, Campania and Puglia Region.
