Starting on 15 September 2008 the second phase of the OIE Twinning scheme with Botswana took place at the Istituto G. Caporale.

In its capacity as OIE Reference Laboratory for Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP), the Institute has activated a twinning project with the National Veterinary Laboratory of Botswana, in order for the African country to be able to develop its own technical-scientific capabilities for combating the spread of the disease in Southern Africa, including countries such as Angola, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa and Zambia.

During this second phase of the Twinning scheme, which lasted for 90 days altogether, three vets from the African country underwent an in-depth period of training in activities relating to the diagnosis and control of CBPP.
