The Institute in Uganda

From 26th till 28th February 2014, the veterinary surgeon Massimo Scacchia and engineers Patrizia Colangeli and Ercole Del Negro from IZSAM performed a pre-audit visit funded by the FAO at the National Animal Disease Diagnostic and Epidemiology Centre (NADDEC) in Entebbe, in Uganda.

The visit was aimed at assessing the conditions for the installation and use of the Lab Activity Management Information System (SILAB) at the NADDEC by the IZSAM. This system is currently used in the National Labs of 5 African countries: Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Tanzania.

The delegation was received by the veterinary surgeon Ayebazibwe Chrisostom, on behalf of the Director of the NADDEC Anna Rose Ademum Okurut, and by the Assistant Commissioner Disease Control, C. S. Rutebarika, who showed strong interest and will to participate in the project and establish a research cooperation with the IZSAM: to this purpose, a further meeting took place with Dr. Joseph Sserugga, epidemiologist at the NADDEC and representative in Uganda for the FAO EMPRES-i EMA project.

The Institute’s researchers, accompanied by Dr. Ayebazibwe Chrisostom, also met Dr. Alhaji M. Jallow at the FAO headquarters in Kampala in order to submit the ideas about the project and the possible future collaboration between the NADDEC and IZSAM to the FAO representative in Uganda.
