IZSAM in Turkey for the Regional FAO workshop on animal welfare

From the 6^th to the 8^th of May 2014, the “Regional workshop on animal welfare in meat producing animals”, organized by FAO Sub-Regional Office for Central Asia in collaboration with TIKA (Turkish Development Agency), RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and VHSD (Veterinary Public Health Association), was held in Ankara, Turkey.

The workshop aimed at promoting the exchange of knowledge between animal welfare experts of different Institutions of Central Asia (Ministry of Agriculture, Universities, Trade associations, etc.) on the international dimension of animal welfare, on the welfare of livestock animals, on the referring European legislation, on the veterinarians’ role, on training and international cooperation for the promotion of animal welfare in Europe and in the Asiatic Region.

The Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise “G. Caporale” (IZSAM) took part to the event by presenting the strategic approach, the methodology and the primary objectives of training within the veterinary field for the promotion of animal welfare and, at the same time, by reporting the experiences of IZSAM and by observing the importance of training in building the capacities of organizations and national institutions engaged in the safeguard of Public Health and animal welfare in the Region.
