“Better Training for Safer Food” training course on animal welfare during transport

 

The second edition of the training course on animal welfare during transport, funded by the European Commission in the framework of the “Better Training for Safer Food” Initiative, will be organized by the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise “G. Caporale” (IZSAM) and held between Nova Gorica (Slovenia) and the Province of Trieste (Italy) from the 24th to the 27th of June 2014.

 

By choosing a bi-national approach for this specific BTSF training course, the IZSAM aims to provide to all participants - official veterinarians mainly from EU Member States - with the best competences and experiences of the two countries: Italy and Slovenia constitute together an important intersection in the displacement of animals during long journeys transport.

 

The 55 participants come from Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Chile, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Moldavia, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, The-Former-Yugoslav-Republic–of-Macedonia, Turkey, the UK.

They will have the opportunity to know the Italian experience of inter-sectorial collaboration, where the Official Veterinary Services, the Italian State Police and non-governmental organizations are joining their forces to guarantee the implementation of the European legislation for the protection of animals during transport.

 

The training course foresees scientific lessons and specialised exercises. International experts and spokesmen of non-governmental organizations and relevant stakeholders of the sector will contribute to develop an intense technical and practical learning programme focused on the European legislation and relevant issues concerning animal welfare during transport.
