System for the identification and registration of bees

From Monday the 19th of January the system for the identification and registration of bees has becoming operational with the possibility to register on the Veterinary Computer System portal www.vetinfo.sanita.it, managed and implemented by the National Service Center (CSN), who was established by the Ministry of Health in January 2002 at the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise “G. Caporale” (IZSAM) with the task of planning, implementing and managing the Computerized National Database for the zootechnical identification and registration.

The operators of the Local Health Units (ASL), the companies and breeders will be able to access the zootechnical livestock management system to register their activity, communicate new opening activities, specify the amount of apiaries, the number of beehives or the movements for trade. A public section dedicated to beekiping and which will allow to start the on-line procedure to require an account, is available on the website www.vetinfo.sanita.it.

With reference to the identification and registration system, the Minister of Health, Beatrice Lorenzin, declared: “It is an important step forward for both the beekeepers’ work and the health of consumers. The new identification and registration system will guarantee the traceability of apiaries and honey, the legitimacy of the financial public contributions for beekeepers and, above all, it will facilitate the control on the diseases of bees and the management of emergences”.
