Angola and Cuba at the Institute for CBPP
On the 6th of June, 2012, the Director of Veterinary Services of the Namibe region of Angola, Daniel Samo, and the Director of the Microbiology Department of the Cuban Centro Nacional de Sanidad Agropecuaria (CENSA), Evelin Lobo Rivero, arrived at the Institute.
The purpose of the two researchers' visit is to engage in laboratory activities and epidemiological studies on contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP), a disease for which the G. Caporale Institute is a World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) Reference Laboratory, since 1993.
CBPP is an infectious and contagious disease of slow diffusion, mostly observed in cattle and in closely related species such as buffalo, yak and bison, and endemic in some African regions. For this reason, the Angolan Director of Veterinary Services requested the G. Corporale Institute's technical and scientific support for the control and eradication of the disease, which in Angola, particularly, has a dramatic impact on the national cattle herd.
Dr. Evelin Lobo Rivero will stay at the Institute until June the 15th whereas Dr. Daniel Samo is expected to leave on the 6th of July 2012.
