On Friday the 10th of October 2014 the Regional Assessor for Health of the Abruzzo Region Silvio Paolucci visited IZSAM. On the agenda was the project on the new headquarters of IZSAM in L’Aquila.
1st October 2014 - It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Dr. Vincenza Annunziata Prencipe. She went away quietly almost on tiptoe, as it was her custom to live, after a long and painful illness, which she never wanted to bend to.
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published, on the 15th of September, the External Scientific Report on the ‘Use of animal based measures for the assessment of dairy cow welfare’.
The event, considered as one of the most serious environmental disasters of the Abruzzo Region, mobilized authorities, institutions, associations and numerous volunteers.
During the first two weeks of September 2014, six laboratory technicians of the Food Safety and Veterinary Institute of Albania and the Veterinary Faculty of Sarajevo were trained at the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise “G. Caporale” (IZSAM) on Heavy metals and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) detection.
The Abruzzo Region, the Istituto Zooprofilattico dell’Abruzzo e del Molise “G. Caporale” (IZSAM) and the Local Health Units are taking all the necessary measures to manage the bluetongue emergency: the crisis Units were established and the procedures set by the emergency plan were adopted.
From the 3rd to the 5th of September 2014, the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise “G. Caporale” (IZSAM) participated in the6th International Conference on the Assessment of Animal Welfare at Farm and Group Level, which was held in Clermont-Ferrand. IZSAM presented a study on a protocol for the assessment of equidae welfare during long journeys.
From the 28th to the 30st of July 2014 the inter-sessional meeting of the project "EMIDA ERA-NET PROJECT Brucella melitensis: biotyping and differential diagnostic" was held at the International Centre for Veterinary Training and Information (CIFIV).
Between the 14 and 18 July 2014 the fourth edition of the Canine Science Forum took place in Lincoln (United Kingdom). This conference is a biannual event, and has the primary aim of providing a common platform for researchers and professionals from all over the world working with dogs and related Canids.
The Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise “G. Caporale” hosted on 12-13 June 2014 the annual meeting of the European Forum of Animal Welfare Councils (EuroFAWC).
IZSAM contributed to the event, which was held in Bucharest from the 17th to the 19th of June 2014, by presenting the methodology and contents of a questionnaire implemented in order to analyse the measures and the initiatives taken for the control of the stray dog populations and the application of the OIE standards.
Extended to July 27, the abstract submission deadline for authors interested in presenting oral communications or posters at the IV International Conference on Bluetongue and related Orbiviruses. The event will be organised by IZSAM and will take place in Rome on 5-7 November 2014.
The DG Sanco of European Commission has launched a study on the welfare of dogs and cats involved in commercial practices in EU Member States. Different on line questionnaires are addressed to a variety of stakeholders in order to collect the information needed for this study.
The second edition of the training course on animal welfare during transport, funded by the European Commission in the framework of the “Better Training for Safer Food” Initiative, will be organized by the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise “G. Caporale” (IZSAM) and held between Nova Gorica (Slovenia) and the Province of Trieste (Italy) from the 24th to the 27th of June 2014.
On the 13th of June 2014, Dr. Marc Allard of the US Food and Drug Administration will hold a seminar on food-born pathogen comparative genomics at the International Centre for Veterinary Training and Information (CIFIV) of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise “G. Caporale”.
