Next Generation Sequencing

Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), a technology that has only recently marked its first decade, has undergone rapid development since its introduction, resulting in a significant increase in sequencing speed while considerably reducing costs.

NGS has a wide range of applications, from the study of rare genetic variants or gene panels related to specific diseases in clinical settings, to the characterisation of bacterial and viral pathogen genomes for epidemiological purposes or to better understand mechanisms of drug resistance and virulence in microbiology.

The Molecular Biology Unit and the Omics Technologies and Bioinformatics Unit, both part of the Institute’s Laboratory for Development and Territory, offer next-generation sequencing services based on the Illumina NextSeq™ platform, along with bioinformatic analyses suitable for a broad array of applications.

For information regarding genomic sequencing, bioinformatic analyses and/or to request a personalised quotation, please email: genomica@izs.it, specifying the intended application, number of samples, expected coverage, and any required bioinformatic analyses.
