Zambian delegation Visit

 

 

On 7 December 2016, a delegation of Zambia and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, David Shamulenge, had been welcomed by the General Director of the IZS of Abruzzo and Molise, Prof.Mauro Mattioli.

 

To this delegation began: Geoffrey M. Muuka, head of veterinary research activities at the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock; Gregory Mululuma and Cornelius Mundia from national Veterinary Service office in Zambia and Olive Clara Chiboola, coordinator of the project on bovine identification and registration system.

 

At the meeting, they discussed the strengthening of this partnership and some new scientific collaboration projects between the IZSAM and the Veterinary Services in Lusaka. All the representatives of the African Country underlined the importance of the role of the IZS of Abruzzo and Molise against diseases and destitution.

Thanks to these scientific cooperation projects, the permanent presence of the technical staff of the Istituto over time, all the diagnostic capacity of veterinary laboratories, had been improved the control of both zoonoses and animal diseases.

 

The delegation took the opportunity to reiterate its confidence in the Institute, so that, the Zambian government entrusted it a strategic project, such as, the bovine identification and registration system. This project, already ratified in April 2015, considers, the IZSAM will carry out several support activities for the Veterinary Services of the African Country in order to improving the animal and public health, to strengthening the diseases control (above all zoonoses) and so getting the related sale and exportation of the meat by bovine monitoring and registration in the south-central African Country. The IZSAM activities will be utterly financed by the Zambian Government for a total amount of 261,160.00 dollars.

 

A large group of experts of the Istituto attended this meeting, which had been held at CIFIV in Colleatterrato – Teramo. There were the head of the Animal Health Laboratory and Scientific Cooperation Unit of IZSAM, Massimo Scacchia (just come back from an institutional mission in Zambia); the Lab head Nicola Ferri also as expert in animal identification systems; the head of the Development Unit of the ICT Department, Patrizia Colangeli and the head of the National Service Centre Animal Registry Luigi Possenti.
