On the 27th February 2014, the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise “G. Caporale” (IZSAM) is hosting in Teramo a seminar on "Food security, sustainable agriculture and forestry, marine and maritime and inland water research and the bioeconomy”. Registrations are is open until the 24th February.
Four laboratory technicians from Bosnia-Herzegovina and Albania have been in the Institute from 17 to 21 Fenruary 2014 to be trained on heavy metals, as part of the activities established in the European CAPS2 project.
From the 18th to the 21st February the IZSAM is organizing in Parma a training course on Animal Welfare during slaughter for the control of animal disease. The course will fall within the framework of the initiative “Better Training for Safer Food” promoted by the DG SANCO of the European Commission.
“Farm animal welfare and food safety: effect of on‐farm and pre‐slaughtering stress factors on microbiological contamination of poultry meat” is the title of the project, which has been awarded by a team of young researcher (under 40) of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise “G. Caporale”.
The Veterinary Operational Centre for Epidemiology, Programming and Information and Risk analysis (COVEPI) of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise “G. Caporale” (IZSAM) and the Ministry of Health published the report "Situazione sanitaria delle popolazioni animali allevate in Italia. Risultati, attività, sorveglianza nazionale" (“Health status of the livestock population raised in Italy. Results, activity, national surveillance”), updated to 2011.
The IZSAM developed, in collaboration with the Institut de Recerca i Tecnologìa Agroalimentarias of Catalunya (Spain), an innovative protocol for the welfare assessment of sheltered dogs, named Shelter Quality.
IZSAM, because it is an OIE Collaborating Centre for Veterinary Training, Epidemiology, Food Safety and Animal Welfare, was invited at the first regional meeting of animal welfare experts for the Western Balkan countries. The meeting was held at Terme Tuhelj on the 27th and 28th of February 2014.
The activity carried out by the working group consists in verifying the presence of environmental contaminants in the ground due to illegal waste disposal through burning or dumping of radioactive and toxic waste. The Ministerial Directive allows the use of the IZSAM’ information system in order to collect data, to carry out the classification procedures and to register the land under inquiry.
Within the framework of the CAPS2 cooperation project, five laboratory technicians coming from Croatia and Montenegro will attend the Laboratory of Bromatology, Residues in foods for human and animal consumption at the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise “G. Caporale” for a period of training.
Within the framework of the OIE Twinning project on Brucellosis, four representatives of the Zimbabwean Central Veterinary Laboratory will be in Teramo on the 27thand the 28th January for the Kick Off Meeting with the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise “G. Caporale”.
A delegation of Veterinary Services of Zambia, consisting of doctors Geoffrey Muuka, A.C. Songolo, Swithine Kabilika, and Christine Yamba Yamba, made a study visit at the IZS dell’Abruzzo e del Molise from 13 to 17 January 2014.
On 3rd December 2013, a study day for technical-scientific refresher training about the epidemiological situation of brucellosis in Italy was held at the CIFIV "Francesco Gramenzi" of the "IZS dell'Abruzzo e del Molise".
From the 21st to the 24th January, the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise “G. Caporale” is organizing in Parma the second training on Animal Welfare within the framework of the initiative “Better Training for Safer Food” promoted by the DG SANCO of The European Commission.
From the 13th to the 17th January, four representatives of the Zambian Veterinary Services will be in Teramo to visit the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise “G.Caporale” to find out more about the animal identification and registration system and the electronic identification system for bovine animals, which is presently used in Italy.
Representatives of Veterinary Epidemiology Centres, Universities, Higher Institute for Health and the European Reference Laboratory for Listeria monocytogenes have shared the latest acquisitions on Campylobacter and Listeria in the CIFIV of Teramo.
