International Conference on Risk Analysis

The International Conference "Risk Analysis as a Tool for the Control of Animal Diseases and Zoonoses in the Mediterranean Basin" was held from 5 to 7 November 2013 in the conference room of the CIFIV "F. Gramenzi" of Colleatterrato Alto (Teramo - Italy).

The event was organized by the IZS of Abruzzo and Molise "G. Caporale" (IZSAM), a Collaboration Centre of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) for Veterinary Training , Epidemiology, Food Safety, and Animal Welfare.

The Conference began with a greeting from the Director of the IZSAM Fernando Arnolfo and contributions by Gaetana Ferri (Italian Ministry of Health), Derek Belton (OIE), Julio Pinto (FAO), Alberto Laddomada (European Commission), and Franck Berthe (EFSA).

The uniqueness of the ecosystem of the Mediterranean basin for animal diseases and zoonoses has imposed the need to establish networks for the exchange of scientific knowledge and methods of risk analysis between the countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea. In this context, the meeting was an important scientific opportunity to exchange information and opinions, and a useful event to promote further cooperation and set new targets.
