The Unit ensures the maintenance and support of all information systems and applications developed by the Institute. It monitors the quality of the software produced and used within the Institute and conducts advanced analyses of the data collected and managed through these systems. The unit implements specialised technical-scientific guidelines in research, development, and innovation activities in the field of information technology, while complying with national and international institutional strategies and aligning its work with the Ministry of Health's requirements.

The Unit, part of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Laboratory, identifies needs and gathers information required for data recording, management, analysis, and representation for both internal and external clients. It analyzes data from various systems to develop expert systems that support decision-making based on the available information.

The unit implements Data Warehouses and Data Lakes to collect, organize, and analyze data from diverse and heterogeneous sources related to the various information systems managed. It develops advanced algorithms using Big Data Analytics, Machine Learning techniques, and AI-based models to analyze large datasets and solve complex problems through national and international collaborations.

The unit regularly publishes statistical data on diagnostic activities for internal reporting and other institutional processes supported by information systems.

For external information systems, particularly the National Livestock Database (BDN), the unit publishes and manages Open Data regarding livestock populations and main identification and registration events, following agreements with the Ministry of Health. It provides thematic dashboards containing health and management indicators to assist national and regional veterinary services with planning, monitoring, and managing their respective activities.

The unit verifies data accuracy and ensures the integrity of information flows to quickly detect and correct anomalies. It also monitors software quality and data security by coordinating activities and acting as the interface with external companies tasked with customizing and installing software solutions.

Additionally, the unit manages data streams for the Abruzzo Regional Epidemiological Observatory, supporting national reporting requirements like the National Animal Feeding Plan, National Residue Plan, and Pesticide Monitoring Program. It ensures the accurate and timely transmission of data to the National Health Information System (NSIS) and responds to authorized data requests from institutional and external stakeholders.
