Dear Readers,

I am pleased to share with you the edition n. 37/2023 of the National Veterinary Epidemiological Bulletin.

The Publications section opens with an overview of the MATRIX - Connecting Dimensions in One Health Surveillance  project, edited by Dr. Francesca Cito et al., a careful examination of the procedures and guidelines for health surveillance, from the perspective of One Health. The One Health systemic approach, which contemplates the coexistence of people, animals, plants and the environment, is considered a priority in a world where 75% of infectious diseases affecting humans are of animal origin (zoonosis). However, the One Health holistic vision requires the development of collaborations between different sectors, not always used to collaborating with each other.

In the second article, The fight against Brucellosis in the name of One Health, Dr. Fabrizio De Massis et al., summarize the main aspects of the brucellosis conference held in Giulianova (Teramo, Italy) in September 2022. The event offered a fundamental opportunity for sharing knowledge, experiences and future perspectives regarding this still relevant disease.

In the Data and Maps section, it is possible to generate updated and detailed maps, based on your needs, on the distribution of the main animal diseases notified in SIMAN in the period of interest.

In the Free territories  section, the provinces and regions free from infections with Brucella abortus, B. melitensis and B. suis in populations of cattle and sheep and goats and infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (M. bovis, M. caprae and M. tuberculosis) have been updated in accordance with community legislation 1071 of 1 June 2023.

In the News section you will find a series of interesting news related to the period 2022 and all those of previous years (2011-2021).

In the Submit your article section, which can be consulted via the Discover online services drop-down menu, it is possible to consult the guidelines for authors and send articles and short news to the BENV editorial staff.
