In the Scientific Articles section, you will find a short “review” that helps to reflect on how, once again, the man finds himself having to face, with guilty delay, a SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus pandemic favored by his own actions. It gathers the opinions of experts in various scientific, economic and social fields and it try to explain the links between human actions on natural habitats, climate change and biodiversity and the consequences that these have brought on public health and the whole society.

The second article deals with the issue of Rift Valley fever (RVF). Although most of the sub-Saharan countries are considered to be part of the endemic area for RVF, the disease has several times proven to be able to spread to new territories. Moreover, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) recommended, in a recent Scientific Opinion: “….omissis……it is of paramount importance for the EU to establish and maintain a close collaboration with North African and Middle Eastern countries in the surveillance of possible introduction of RVF from currently infected areas…omissis…”.

The third article deals with the issue of African Swine Fever (ASF). An efficient strategy for ASF prevention or control should be based on deep knowledge of target domestic and wild population, of environmental conditions and type of swine sector. Nevertheless, all the strategies must take in count that the disease knows no bounds and a common policy should be defined. In addition, to date, gaps in several research areas present the current challenges for disease control.

Regarding the section of the Officially Free Territories, the Valle d’Aosta Region has been declared officially free of bovine tuberculosis (Decision 2020/552 / EU).
