Dear Readers,
I am pleased to share with you the edition n. 39/2024 of the National Veterinary Epidemiological Bulletin.
The Publications section opens with an article by Dr Francesca Dall’Acqua et al., which provides a detailed summary of the article by Dr Silvia Pavone et al., titled African Swine Fever: The State of Affairs in Italy as of September 11, 2023. Dr Dall’Acqua describes the progress of the epidemic, the control measures implemented, and the results achieved up to the specified date. The article examines the advancements in research and management of the disease, highlighting the challenges still to be faced. This work is a valuable resource for understanding the evolution and strategies to combat the spread of African swine fever in Italy.
In the second article Dr. Carla Ippoliti et al., introduces and describes the abstract book of the International Conference on Spatial Epidemiology, Geostatistics, and GIS Applied to Animal Health, Public Health, and Food Safety, offering a comprehensive overview of the topics addressed at the conference. The dominant theme was the increasing integration of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the One Health approach, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary collaborations to innovatively address health challenges in an ever-changing world.
In the Data and Maps section, it is possible to generate updated and detailed maps, according to your needs, on the distribution of the main animal diseases notified in SIMAN in the period of interest.
In the Disease-Free Territories section, the province of Agrigento (Sicily region) is free from Brucella abortus, B. melitensis, and B. suis infections in cattle populations in accordance with EU regulation 1332 of 17, May 2024.
The province of Matera (Basilicata region) is free from Brucella abortus, B. melitensis and B. suis in ovine and caprine animal populations according to the EU legislation 2032 of 29 July 2024.
The province of Sassari (Sardinia region) is free from infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (M. bovis, M. caprae and M. tuberculosis) (MTBC) according to the EU legislation 2032 of 29 July 2024.
The News section publishes scientific news related to the period 2024 and all those of previous years (2011-2023).
