Dear Readers,

I am pleased to share with you the 34th edition, the first of 2021, of the National Veterinary Epidemiological Bulletin.

Thanks to the online version of the website, it is possible to consult updated data in real time on the outbreaks of diseases notified in the Animal Diseases Information System (SIMAN).

In the Data and Maps section, it is possible to generate updated and detailed maps, based on your needs, on the distribution of the main animal diseases notified in SIMAN in the period of interest.

The Scientific Articles section discusses and examines The eradication activity of swine vesicular disease in the Calabria region achieved in 2019. This work illustrates the data concerning the activities implemented following the approval of the extraordinary regional eradication plan within the Decree of the Commissioner ad acta (DCA) n.139 of 22 December 2015 and compared with the epidemiological evolution of the disease in the area in the same period of five years.

The second article examines The spread of Trichinella britovi in domestic animals and widlife in the Abruzzo region. The purpose of the work is to provide updates on T. britovi infection regarding its distribution in the territory of the Abruzzo region and in host species in the period 2015-2020 (until 30 June). In particular, report data from two recent infection events in a previously unaffected species and free territory.

With regard to the section of the Officially Free Territories, the Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2021/385 of 2 March 2021 officially made further Italian territories and regions free from brucellosis melitensis as regards sheep and goat farms (the Annex II to Decision 93/52 / EEC has been amended), and officially free of tuberculosis and officially free of brucellosis as regards bovine herds (Annexes I and II of Decision 2003/467 / EC have been amended).

In the News section you will find a series of interesting news relating to the period 2021 and all those of previous years (2011-2020).

In the Send your article section, which can be looked up through the drop-down menu Discover online service, you can refer to the guidelines for the authors and send the articles and short news to the editorial staff of BENV.
