Training period of dr. Mehmet Fatih Evrensel, Turkey

The Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell'Abruzzo e del Molise "G. Caporale", in the framework of the international cooperation activities carried out as OIE Collaborating Centre for Veterinary Training, Epidemiology, Food Safety and Animal Welfare, will host between the 27^th of November until the 23^rd of December, dr. Mehmet Fatih Evrensel, official veterinarian working for the Turkish Ministry of Food Agriculture and Livestock, for a training period about animal welfare at farm.

Dr. Mehmet Fatih Evrensel is working in the Bolu province Directorate and is RTP (Regional Training Program) expert of TAIEX, charged in South-eastern Anatolia region on food safety. TAIEX is the Technical Assistance and Information Exchange instrument managed by the Directorate-General Enlargement of the European Commission. TAIEX supports partner countries with regard to the approximation, application and enforcement of EU legislation. Technical assistance through the TAIEX instrument comes in many different forms. Workshops, study-visits and expert mission provide assistance to beneficiary countries on the approximation and implementation of EU legislation. The main goal of the Regional Training Programme (RTP) is to provide training to the regional and municipal authorities who have a particularly important role to play in putting EU measures and standards into practice in local level. In the behalf of this role he organises seminars and workshops for the training of official veterinarians, meat inspectors, municipal staff, private sector and members of civil society on food safety at local level.

During his stay, dr. Evrensel will be involved in all activities of the Human-Animal Relationship and Animal Welfare Laboratory of the Institute, focussing in particular on the study of the European legislative framework about livestock animal welfare and on the different means of assessment of animal welfare on field.
