The IZSAM in the USA at "Global Microbial Identifier"

The Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell'Abruzzo e del Molise "G. Caporale" (IZSAM) participated in the 6th meeting on Global Microbial Identifier held at the UC Davis Campus in California (USA) on 10 - 11 September 2013.

The "Global Microbial Identifier" initiative aims at developing a global platform for storing the whole genome sequencing data of microorganisms in order to improve epidemiological surveillance and investigation of infectious diseases by more precise and rapid diagnosis.

During the 6th meeting all the participants discussed a path forward on establishing a globally distributed system as well as reviewing and updating the strategic plan of this initiative.

The meeting was attended by some representatives from intergovernmental organisations such as OIE (World Organisation for Animal Health) and WHO (World Health Organization). There were also some other participants from FDA (US Food and Drug Administration), UC Davis (University of California, Davis), CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention), DTU (Technical University of Denmark), USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) and other Institutions.
