Algerian delegation at IZSAM

The Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise “G. Caporale” (IZSAM) was  designated by Algeria as the organism responsible for the management of the logistics and the administrative part of the European twinning project “Mise à niveau des laboratoires de l’institut national de la médecine vétérinaire aux standards européens et internationaux”.

In March, IZSAM organized two workshops in Italy for two Algerian Delegations with the objective of strengthening the competences of researchers and expert technicians of the Institut National de la Médecine Vétérinaire (INMV) through the knowledge of best practices, transfer of technology, methods and skills in the field of biological risk management.

The first delegation was composed of the INMV' General Director Abdelkader Hamida, Khatib Bendimerad (Director of the Veterinary Laboratory of Tlemcen), Nadia Boukhalfa married Mehemli (Director of the Veterinary Laboratory of Constantine) and Taha Hoçine Ghenim (Director of the Veterinary Laboratory of Tizi-Ouzou). Taha Hoçine Ghenim attended a workshop at IZSAM from the 9th to the 13th of March 2015 during which she had the opportunity to visit the buildings and laboratories and to learn more about the functioning of the Institute: in particular about the Laboratory for Foods of Animal Origin, the Serum and Vaccine Management Laboratory and the Serology, Virology and Diagnostic Microbiology Departments of the Laboratory for Diagnosis of Transmissible Animal Diseases.
The Algerian Delegation also visited the high biological containment Class PCL4 Laboratory of IZSAM. The last day they had the opportunity to learn, through a guided visit, the activities and functioning of the Laboratory for Experimental Transformation with High Biological Containment for the study of pathogenic microorganisms in the food production: i.e. the cured pork meat factory, cheese factory and domestic treatment sections where bio-security is performed through air filtration and water sterilization systems, as well as through the sterilization of all the materials used during the transformation process.

On the 12th of March the Algerian Delegation, accompanied by IZSAM' staff, moved to Perugia in order to visit the P3 Security Laboratory of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Umbria e delle Marche.
