International Activities

Since early '90s, the Istituto G. Caporale is being exporting know-how on research and investigation, training, epidemiology and risk analysis, animal health and welfare and food safety, and in the organisation, implementation and management of animal registration data banks.

The innovation and quality of its services, allowed the Institute to be acknowledged as reliable and trustworthy, so as to become leader in the capacity building process of   public veterinary services of a large part of the world. East European and Mediterranean basin countries in particular, could largely benefit from the cooperation activities of the Institute.

In the last 20 years, the World Health Organisation (WHO), The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), and the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) entrusted the Institute with the role of Collaborating Centre and Reference Laboratory in specific spheres of activity: its expertise was then acknowledged by the three most important organisations engaged in Veterinary Public Health.

Fulfilling its mandate as collaborating centre and laboratory of reference, the Institute provides training, consultancy and technical support in many countries, also with reference to the standardisation of diagnostic techniques, the definition of strategies for monitoring and control of animal disease and zoonosis spreading, and for the implementation of health regulations for live animals and their products trade.

The International Centre for Veterinary Training and Information  (CIFIV) was set up in 2004, with the purpose of supporting the Institute mission of strengthening official veterinary services supporting their capacity building process. OIE Member Countries benefit from this training centre to increase the standards of their technical and management performances.
