Herd Register

The timely updating of the Record of cattle movements on and off the holding is the responsibility of the keeper of the animals. In the case of the birth of a new animal, within three days following the tagging of the animal the keeper must transcribe the following information (in the boxes highlighted in yellow):

  • eartag number
  • breed
  • sex
  • dam's identification code
  • letter "N" if born on the holding, letter "A" if purchased
  • date of birth
  • date of entry (coinciding with the date of birth if the animal was born on the holding)

If the animal is purchased, the keeper must transcribe the details of the source holding, to be found on Form 4 which accompanies the animal.

It is the responsibility of the keeper to update the Register promptly at the time the animal leaves the farm, transcribing the animal's date of leaving or death into the appropriate boxes provided on the Register.
