With the launch of the Regional School for Advanced Research Innovation on One Health (SCALARE) a new and important milestone has been reached in the scientific collaboration between the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise and the University of Teramo (UNITE).
In April 2025, the two institutions signed an Agreement with the Department for Cohesion Policies and the South of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, as part of a call for the selection of projects promoting research, technology transfer, and university education to be funded in the regions of Lazio, Abruzzo, Umbria, and Marche affected by the 2016 earthquakes.
Thanks to the SCALARE project, Teramo becomes a national and international hub for advanced training and research in the field of One Health, strengthened by a multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral network of collaborations with both academic and non-academic institutions in Italy and abroad. The goal is to train a new generation of highly qualified researchers, equipped with cutting-edge scientific and technological skills, able to actively contribute to innovation in the fields of human, animal, and environmental health, in line with the integrated One Health approach.
To ensure the School becomes operational immediately, a call for applications has been published today for 12 fully funded PhD scholarships under the SCALARE Project, as part of the XLI cycle of doctoral programmes – Academic Year 2025/2026. The PhD projects will be part of one of the following programmes at the University of Teramo: Cellular and Molecular Biotechnology, Food Science, Veterinary Medical Science, Public Health and Animal Welfare. Each programme, lasting three years, will be co-supervised by faculty and researchers from UNITE and the IZS Teramo, ensuring a cross-sectoral approach to training. A three-month national mobility period with partner companies or institutions is planned, as well as an international mobility experience of 6 to 12 months at universities or research centres of scientific excellence.
The deadline for applications is June 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. (CEST). All details are available at this link.
