The Institute in the Republic of Kazakhstan

From 10 to 14 March 2014, Fabrizio De Massis, Elisabetta Di Giannatale, Lucilla Ricci and Manuela Tittarelli of the IZSAM have been to Kazakhstan for a preliminary audit within the “OIE Twinning for Animal Brucellosis including diagnostic epidemiology with the objective to become an OIE reference laboratory for Brucellosis”.

It is a twinning project by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) on Brucellosis, which involves the IZSAM as an OIE Reference Laboratory for Brucellosis and the National Veterinary Reference Center (NVRC) Republic of Kazakhstan. The Twinning is aimed at improving knowledge and skills of Kazakh staff so that the NVRC can become an OIE Reference Laboratory and provide scientific support and technical aid to other Central Asia Countries.

The target of the visit was to evaluate the preliminary conditions of the activity of the National Veterinary Reference Center, which is already an accredited Laboratory and National Reference Laboratory, in order to better schedule the activities to be carried out during the training that the Kazakh researchers shall follow at the IZS of Abruzzo and Molise “G. Caporale” starting from the beginning of March 2014.

The Italian delegation was welcomed by the General Director of the NVRC and his cooperators.
