CAPS2 Project: technician from Albania and Bosnia-Herzegovina at IZSAM

Ederina Ninga and Elona Shahu of the Food Safety and Veterinary Institute of Albania, Dinaida Tahirović and Dzenita Viteskić of the Veterinary Faculty of Sarajevo, attended the Laboratory of Bromatology of IZSAM, in order to be trained on Heavy metals detection from the 1st to the 5th of September 2014. From the 8th to the 12th of September also Merjem Bushati and Sofiana Mai of the Food Safety and Veterinary Institute of Albania, together with Dinaida Tahirovic and Dzenita Viteskic, attended the Laboratory of Bromatology for a period of training on Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) detection.

Both of the training sessions are part of the project “Strengthening of Aquaculture Centres for production and Safety Surveillance in Adriatic Cross-border Countries - CAPS2” (2nd ORD/0216)”, which commenced in Teramo on December 2012 and is co-financed by the European Union through the IPA Adriatic Cross Border Cooperation 2007-2013 Framework Programme.

The CAPS2 activities, involving most of the bordering countries of the Adriatic Sea, focus on the analysis and management of new chemical and microbiological contamination risks. The project partners, coming from Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro and Albania, are adapting their equipment and acquiring new competences in order to strengthen the diagnostic capabilities and knowledge concerning the chemical and microbiological contaminants, which could represent a risk for the safety of fish products.
