Fields of Activities

The RL is supporting Zambia, Angola and Namibia in their policy to control CBPP and in the context the RL is working actively to build-up a network among representatives of the above mentioned countries and the OIE RL at the Botswana National Veterinary Laboratory, established in the 2012 at conclusion of an OIE Twining Project with the IZSAM.

Aim of the Network is the coordination of the disease control activities in the three territories affected by the disease including training and exchange of personnel, competences and scientific knowledge. Training of personnel from the Departments of Veterinary Services of Tanzania, Mauritania and Kenya, financially supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency, has been recently carried out. A project aimed to establish the incidence of CBPP in cattle population in Mauritania is in progress.

Scientific collaborations aimed at investigating the pathogenesis of CBPP with the Moredun Research Institute in Edinburgh and the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) in Nairobi are on-going.
