International training

The Institute's international training activity is aimed primarily at scientific, technological and managerial growth of the health services in developing countries. To this end, the Institute has for some time worked alongside the World Health Organization (WHO), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), and also various countries in the European Union.

Since 2007 the Institute has been among the suppliers accredited by the Directorate General for Health and Consumer Affairs (DG SANCO) of the European Commission, for designing training courses for vets from countries in the European Union, candidate countries and non-EU countries which are included in the programme "Better training for safer food" on zoonosis and microbiological criteria, animal welfare and good practice for veterinary tests at border inspection posts. This programme aims at improving safety standards in international trade in order to ensure healthy foods for European citizens.

The international training work, however, also has the aim of sustaining and supporting broader initiatives which envisage the building of international networks, such as for example networks for the surveillance of animal diseases.
