First case of African swine fever in Greece

Dr. Chrysoula Dile, Head, Animal Health Directorate, Ministry of Rural Development and Food, Athens, notified to the OIE the first case of African swine fever in Greece.

 

The date of start of the event was on 5 February 2020 and the outbreak was confirmed the day after by the National Reference Laboratory in a dead fattening pig in a backyard farm, using RT-PCR, ELISA for antigen detection and IPT tests.

 

All the animals (31) were killed; the carcasses, by-products and waste were disposed of under official control. Moreover, additional measure have been implemented according to the European Union and national legislations.

 

The event is continuing. Weekly follow-up reports will be submitted.
