From Lebanon for an OIE twinning project

 

The World Organization for Animal Health (Office International des Épizooties - OIE) has financed a twinning project involving the Italian Ministry of Health and the Lebanese Ministry of Agriculture.

 

The main objective of both the countries is to strengthen the co-operation in veterinary medicine in order to control the infectious diseases and to guarantee the safety of live animals and of the products of animal origin.

 

The twinning project is involving the Istituto Zooprofilattico dell’Abruzzo e del Molise "G. Caporale” (IZSAM), who is an OIE Collaborating Centre for Veterinary Training, Epidemiology, Food Safety and Animal Welfare and who organized from the 2nd to the 13th of February 2015 a course on Epidemiology at its headquarters in Teramo.

 

Among the main treated topics there were: the basic knowledge on epidemiology, the spatial analysis of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS).The course, which was held by IZSAM experts, involved Ali El Romeh and Bassel El Bazzal of the Animal Health Department, Animal Resource Directorate, Lebanese Ministry of Agriculture assisted by the scientific coordinator Doctor Giacomo Migliorati, responsible for the Laboratory for Foods of Animal Origin (LAOA) of IZSAM.

 

Jasini Athanda Musa from Nigeria, who attended IZSAM for a twinning collaboration of six months, participated in the course as well as Gaetano Di Maio from the University of Teramo.
