The first Italian Cat Museum in Teramo

This Museum will be created in a memorable building “Casa Urbani”, which is in the historic centre in Teramo. In its interior, there are more than 1.500 “Cat” ceramic, porcelain, ebony and antique glass, in addition to some literary and documentary material, as stamps and vintage postcards, coming from Professor Paolo Gambacurta’s private collection. In that occasion, his heirs donated the whole collection to the Istituto Zooprofilattico sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise.

The Mayor, Brucchi, said :"The Municipal administration made available one of its most beautiful and prestigious ancient building, signing a five year agreement. With this museum, unique in its class, the city of Teramo could become a point of reference at national level”. He also thanked all those persons, involved in this project, including the Abruzzo Region for funding almost 50.000 euros.

The Board Chairman of the IZSAM, the lawyer Manola Di Pasquale, reminded her first deed, just inside the Board, that is to carry out the “Cat Museum idea”. She said : "this innovative project will help the progression of Teramo itself. Furthermore, the Istituto will handle the scientific aspects, and besides the museum activity, the Istituto will also organize some scientific events such as conferences and seminars”.

The General Director of IZSAM, Professor Mauro Mattioli, reminded the main role of the Istituto, “both preserving animal welfare and human health”. He also emphasized the cat duality: “a charming animal, which maintains its nature as wild animal and at the same time, it is a straordinary pet, as well. For instance, it has got a very important role in pet therapy and the Istituto has been working on it for long time. The General Director, Professor Mattioli, completed his speech, hoping the “Cat Museum” can quickly bring together for the scientific activities of the Istituto.

The press conference ended with Dr. Paola Di Felice’ speech on the museum center in Teramo and Mrs Rita Gambacurta, sister of the dead benefactor, Professor Paolo Gambacurta.
