Nicola D'Alterio

General Director

Born in 1970 in Torino di Sangro, in the province of Chieti, Dr. Nicola D’Alterio graduated with honors in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Bologna in 1996. At the same university, he later specialized in Animal Nutrition and earned the international Master's degree in Food Safety of Animal Products.

From 2002 to 2005, he served as a Veterinary Officer at the Local Health Authority (ASL) of Avezzano-Sulmona. From 2005 to February 2017, he worked at the ASL of Lanciano-Vasto-Chieti, where he primarily focused on food safety. Earlier in his career, he also collaborated on research programs with the University of Bologna and the University of Chieti-Pescara.

In 2008, he was elected as a councilor in his hometown, and in March 2012, he joined the Provincial Council of Chieti. In August 2012, he was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise (IZSAM) by the Abruzzo Region. In July 2015, he was reappointed to the Board by the Ministry of Health, a position he held until February 9, 2017, when he was appointed Chief Veterinary Officer. From January 2019 to January 2020, he served as Acting Director General.

In January 2020, Dr. Nicola D’Alterio was appointed Director General of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise “G. Caporale”.
