International Centres of Excellence

Since the first '90s the IZSAM has exported its know-how in the field of Research, Training, Risk analysis, Food Safety, Animal Welfare, organization, implementation and management of Databanks for livestock registration. Due to the high quality of its services, the Institute stands out as a convincing and reliable interlocutor as well as an advisor and supporter of Veterinary Services in most countries, becoming a point of reference for Balkan and Mediterranean Countries.

Along the years, three of the most relevant International organizations operating in Veterinary Public Health, such as the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH), the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO), have conferred upon the IZSAM the role of Cooperation Centre and Reference Laboratory in specific domains. These offices allow the Institute to provide for training, counselling and technical assistance on the International level, it is also engaged into standardizing diagnostic techniques, strategies for disease control and health rules for the trade of animals and their products.

In order to make the transfer of knowledge and skills one of the most important objectives of its activities, the International Centre for Veterinary Training and Information (CIFIV) was established in 2004, which allow the members of World organization referring to the Institute, to align their control procedures with international standards.
