Animal welfare in poultry productions (laying hens and chickens kept for meat production)

From the 21st to the 24th of October 2014 the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise “G. Caporale” (IZSAM) is organizing in Edinburgh, Scotland,a training course on Animal Welfare of laying hens and chickens kept for meat production. The Consumers, Health and Food Executive Agency (CHAFEA) of the European Commission is financing the event within the Better Training for Safer Food initiative promoted by the Directorate General SANCO.

The course is addressed to the official veterinarians of the European Union Member States, the Candidate countries and several Third countries. The 57 delegates, who will take part in the event come fromAustria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Portugal, the UK, Czech Republic, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The-Former-Yugoslav-Republic-of-Macedonia, Tunisia, Turkey and Hungary.

Representatives of the Food and Veterinary Office of the European Commission, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), as well as delegates of the National Competent Authorities of several European countries and teachers from Universities and Research Institutes will present the aspects of legislation and the international standards in animal welfare and will facilitate the exchange of perspectives and experiences concerning the application of the European legislation of reference. The training course will consist of theoretical sessions and practical exercises during which participants will be encouraged to discuss the main concepts and exchange knowledge. The activities in plenary sessions and subgroups will consist of the exchange of opinions and discussions of the subject matter.
