The structure oversees and promotes the Institute’s international relations, manages project development through the Project Centre, and coordinates internal and external training and knowledge management activities at regional, national and international level.
It supports the advancement of specialist technical and scientific approaches in both research and training, in line with the Institute’s strategic guidelines and the priorities set at national and international level, as well as by the senior management.
The complex unit “International Relations and Training” acts as a strategic interface between the Institute and the wider external context. It promotes the integration of scientific project development, international cooperation, training and knowledge management at regional, national and international levels.
Through the Project Centre, the unit coordinates the Institute’s participation in initiatives promoted by national, European and multilateral bodies. It oversees all operational phases: from opportunity analysis and project design to technical and financial management and reporting. It manages relations with partners and funding agencies, developing activities aligned with the Institute’s strategic priorities and aimed at strengthening its presence within major international programmes in research, cooperation and capacity building.
The unit also works to develop and consolidate multidisciplinary and transnational networks, fostering strategic partnerships that enhance the impact of project activities and the Institute’s role in relevant scientific frameworks.
Training is closely integrated with project development and is regarded as a key driver for building both individual and organisational capacities. Training programmes are designed based on a thorough assessment of needs and existing competencies. They are characterised by flexibility, sustainability and alignment with the operational context of participants. The methodology prioritises active learning, the combination of theoretical knowledge and practical application, and the use of digital technologies for continuous professional development.
Internal training is a major focus: the unit coordinates its planning and delivery in line with the Institute’s strategies, contributing to the development of human capital and the consolidation of professional expertise. Tailored learning pathways, blended approaches and innovative tools support ongoing training that reflects the scientific and organisational evolution of the Institute.
In parallel, the unit manages the external training catalogue – aimed at competent authorities, veterinary services and public bodies – and organises national and international training and scientific events. These initiatives are designed to enhance technical capacities and promote knowledge sharing in the Institute’s areas of activity.
International engagement is a cross-cutting element of all activities: the unit takes part in thematic networks, fosters partnerships with international actors, works in close cooperation with National and Collaborating Centres, and helps ensure the Institute’s active presence in leading European and global arenas.
Certified to ISO 9001 standards, the unit ensures quality and consistency in project development, training and internationalisation, making a vital contribution to consolidating the Institute’s role within the relevant scientific and institutional landscape.
