Cases of Trichinella in wild boar meat in Lazio Region

Two cases of Trichinella in wild boar killed during the hunting season in the territories of the provinces of Frosinone and Latina, in the South of Lazio Region, were notified last November 2019.

The larvae were sent to the European Union Reference Laboratory for Parasites at the National Institute of Health where genotyping was carried out identifying Trichinella britovi species.

The larvae found were all alive and vital, very mobile.

Sources from the European Union Reference Laboratory for Parasites (https://eurlp.iss.it) indicate that they are not the first cases reported in Italy in 2019.
