Activities

The NRL for Campylobacter provides technical support to official Laboratories, organizes interlaboratory circuits to assess performance with reference to official methods and cooperates with the Ministry of Health to manage screening plans. The Laboratory normally carries out researches within National and International projects on Campylobacter, those studies being useful to understand the efficiency of action measures in primary poultry breeding, virulence mechanisms of the microorganism, its prevalence in animals and its impacts on human health.

It organizes the yearly National Workshop to share the latest acquisitions on Campylobacter and to present ongoing and future work perspectives of NRL and EURL for Campylobacter. Together with CED it contributes to managing the SEAP system for the collection of data, molecular profiles and Campylobacter strains isolates from the environment, animals, and food on the national level. The NRL works with the EURL for Campylobacter and participates into yearly workshops and interlaboratory tests organized by the EURL. Moreover, it is part of the team work on microbiological criteria of DG SANCO.
