Environmental Education Centre

Regional Law no. 122 dated 29 November 1999 established actions on Environmental Education in the Abruzzo Region and provided the guidelines to implement the regional system for Environmental Education which is part of a broader National network created in the 1994-96 Programme for Environmental Education of the Ministry of the Environment.

The system for Environmental Education in Abruzzo includes a variety of public and private organizations making up the regional network of Regional Environmental Education Centres (CEA), which are a remarkable reference on the territory for citizens, schools, education bodies, Local bodies and companies. Consistently with the guiding principles of sustainable development, CEA implement ad-hoc projects on the territory, take care of education on the matter, organize didactic tours, training activities, issue didactic and dissemination materials, are engaged into documentation and research, communication and information. CEA are located throughout the regional territory, and each has its own method to deal with sustainability issues, they support and facilitate participation and education, making their skills available to the public.

The Abruzzo regional authority appointed IZSAM as a CEA in 2006. Its educational projects are mostly intended for any kind of schools and are mainly related to the domains of Veterinary Public Health (food safety and hygiene); Veterinary Urban Hygiene (man-animal-environment interaction), environment screening (sea and rivers water quality, aquaculture, etc.) and Animal Welfare.

The CEA of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise “G. Caporale” is mainly engaged into:

  • Health education projects;
  • Didactic tours;
  • (National and International) Internships and training courses;
  • Dissemination (participation into fairs, conferences, open day, etc).
