The international workshop entitled "Surveillance and control of animal brucellosis", held in Teramo, Italy, from 14 to 16 March 2011, was attended by 23 experts from Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

The event followed the opening meeting of the OIE project "Implementation of surveillance, prophylaxis and contingency plans for brucellosis, tuberculosis, rabies, foot and mouth disease and anthrax in CIS countries", held in Kiev on 10 and 11 March 2010, which was sponsored by the G. Caporale Institute in its capacity as OIE Collaborating Centre for Veterinary Training, Epidemiology, Food Safety and Animal Welfare.

Brucellosis control was identified at the Kiev meeting as a priority for the countries involved in the project, and the G. Caporale Institute was asked to organise the present workshop in Teramo. The workshop was conducted in English with simultaneous translation into Russian.
