The Joint Steering Committee of the EU "New Adriatic Neighbourhood Programme" (INTERREG III Project) announced in December 2007 that the "Centre for Aquaculture Production and Safety" (CAPS) project presented by the Croatian Veterinary Institute (CVI), based in Split, in partnership with the Istituto G. Caporale of Teramo was awarded second place in the list of approved projects out of a total of about 60 competing projects.
The purpose of the project is to lay the basis for support in terms of knowledge and technology for the aquaculture producers of Croatia, so as to improve quality and safety in fish and shellfish farming, in accordance with European directives and in the interests of food safety for the consumer, environmental quality and animal welfare.
The range of activities in progress includes a programme of training support with a total duration of three weeks for learning statistical techniques and the efficient and effective use of the most advanced equipment for biological and biomolecular diagnostic testing.
During the week of 25-29 May 2009 (the first of the planned three weeks), the Institute was host to the Croatian delegation, consisting of:
Eddy Listes, coordinator and director of CVI, Split
Irena Listeš
Ines Škoko
Zdravka Vidić
Message from the Management of the Istituto G. Caporale
The Management of the Istituto G. Caporale welcomes the delegation, wishes every success to the project and hopes that this will be a profitable learning experience in methods and techniques.
At the same time, it expresses high hopes for the continuation of collaboration with the countries bordering on the Adriatic, and Croatia in particular, to include new collaborative projects which the Institute's Project Centre, coordinated by Dr. Federigo G. Santini, must make it a priority to seek out and identify, in combination with the CVI of Croatia.
