Natural Disasters and “One – Health”. Are we prepared?

 

In the framework of the official program for the Latvian semester of Presidency of the Council of the European Union, on 16 and 17 April 2015, the conference "Natural Disasters and One - Health. Are we prepared? " was held in Brussels. The conference was organized by the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe (FVE) with the participation of the European Commission and the support of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), the World Veterinary Association (WVA), the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), the Latvian Association of Veterinarians and the Committee of the Regions of the European Union.

 

The conference brought together a number of experts from all over the world on issues concerning the veterinary activities in natural disasters within the framework of a "One Health" approach.

 

The Ministry of Health was represented by the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise in his role of National Reference Centre for Veterinary Urban Hygiene and non-Epidemic Emergencies. In particular, Dr. Fabrizio De Massis gave a talk on the topic "Human-Animal-Ecosystem Interaction During a natural disaster.
