The Institute G. Caporale in the Republic of Macedonia

Daniela Morelli, Fabrizio De Massis and Luigi Iannetti of the G. Caporale Institute went to the Republic of Macedonia from 14^th to 21^st November to complete the activities in the framework of the EU funded project "Capacity building of the veterinary service for implementation of EU Acquis", whose activities were started in August 2010.

The main objective of the project was to contribute to the protection of animal and human health and to increase the profitability, competitiveness and sustainability of the food sector by improving the food safety and quality standards. Two training courses were conducted with the aim to provide the knowledge needed to plan, program and implement national plans for the control of zoonoses and zoonotic agents, as requested by the European Union rules.

The training activities, designed to veterinarians working for the Food and Veterinary Agency, were provided in Skopje (14, 15 and 16 November) and Ohrid (19, 20 and 21 November). In particular, topics related to epidemiology, veterinary public health and food hygiene were covered.
