The G. Caporale Animal Disease Prevention Institute has won the major "National Innovation Award", also known as the "Prize of Prizes". This prestigious honour was presented to the Institute's director, Vincenzo Caporale, by the Head of State, Giorgio Napolitano.

The Institute received the award on National Innovation Day, held at the Quirinal Palace in Rome on 8 June 2010, as the best of the 37 public sector organisations which were nominated for the 'Reward for Results' contest, and recently received that award from Minister Renato Brunetta.

The National Innovation Award, open to companies, public sector organisations and individuals working in industry, universities, the public sector and the service industry, was instituted by Prime Minister's Decree with the authorisation of the Head of State, and is organised by the National Foundation for Technological Innovation (COTEC).

The Institute, based in Teramo, received the award for implementing management improvement plans that increased the efficiency of public services, including projects focusing on customer satisfaction, personnel satisfaction, relations with outside stakeholders and above all, reducing operating costs.
