Conference "Beekeeping: prospects and future"

Sunday, November the 25^th 2012, the Teramo Professional Institute of Agriculture "I. Rozzi" hosted a conference, organised by the Teramo Beekeeping Provincial Consortium, entitled "Beekeeping: Perspectives and Future". Participants, who crowed the hall, had the opportunity to benefit from speakers' scientific contributions as well as their direct on field experience, on topics such as the fight against varroa, the vespa velutina, apiculture and agriculture.

The G. Caporale Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Abruzzo and Molise participated in the conference with a presentation, by Dr Luciano Ricchiuti, of a research project regarding the chemical, physical, hygienic, sanitary, and melissopalynological characterisation of the Abruzzo honeys. The study aimed to enhance production quality and quantity, promote the professional growth of beekeepers, and set the terms for the creation of an institutional regional brand of quality. Investigations and results of the above mentioned project were reported in a volume entitled "Study on the characterisation of Abruzzo honeys". Such volume was presented and distributed to all conference participants. Its publication, edited by the Institute, was carried out in collaboration with the Abruzzo Region.
